Brewery benchmarks are useful ways to measure the most important numbers in your business and compare results with brewery peers.
Rent expense, for example, can be measured as a percentage of sales and then compared to industry benchmarks to see where you stand.
The basic equation: Rent Expense / Sales = Rent as % of Sales
When computing total rent, be sure to include all the costs for your space (see the illustration below).
As of this writing, comprehensive data sets for brewery rents as compared to sales are tough to find.
However, in my experience, there are a range of values you can use for comparison. (See chart and video below).
